Job Description
We are seeking a motivated Research Assistant to join the Infectious Diseases Unit at MCRI. We undertake clinical and basic laboratory research into a range of conditions that directly affect the health of children. Our research focuses on enhancing current strategies to diagnose, treat and prevent infectious diseases in infants, children and adults. It encompasses innate and cellular immunology as well as basic and applied medical microbiology.
The Research Assistant will perform immunological and molecular techniques within the Infectious Diseases & Microbiology Research Group, located in the MCRI at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne. We are working on two large funded (NHMRC & Gates) projects investigating the non-specific effects of BCG on infant (MISBAIR) and adult (BRACE) immunity also include laboratory studies investigating diagnosis of and protection against tuberculosis and the immune response to BCG vaccine.
Required Skills
- Honours qualification in Science or related discipline.
- High-quality research skills.
- Experience in immunological techniques including ELISA, multiplex and flow cytometry.
- Demonstrated experience in molecular techniques including DNA & RNA isolation.
- Confident in blood processing and cell isolation techniques.
- Ability to analyse and present immunological and other laboratory data.
